Configuration terms describe a residential unit's room layout: 1BHK means one bedroom, hall and kitchen; 2BHK adds a second bedroom, and so on. Some listings add a suffix like "2BHK + Study" to indicate an additional room beyond the standard configuration.
These terms describe room count, not size — a 2BHK in one project can be considerably larger or smaller than a 2BHK in another, which is why configuration should always be considered alongside actual carpet area.
When comparing properties, use configuration as an initial filter, then compare carpet area and layout efficiency for a more accurate sense of usable space.
